The Kensington and Chelsea Register Office is the official name but most people know it as Chelsea registry office or Chelsea Old Town Hall.

Chelsea is popular if you are after an intimate London register office wedding. Come out onto the steps just as Mick Jagger, Hugh Grant, Marc Bolan and Judy Garland did on their big days.

A little bit of history

The King’s Road is named after King Charles II in the 17th century used it as his private road (as you do). It’s well known as one of London’s most famous streets, particularly during the 1960s and 70s, when it was at the heart of Britain’s fashion and youth-culture revolution. Mary Quant helped popularise the miniskirt, Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McLaren challenged the establishment with their punk designs, and the Sex Pistols became part of the street’s rebellious mythology. It’s a place with a history of people breaking the rules and making their own style –rather fitting for couples choosing to get married on their own terms.

Short Coverage of Your Wedding at Chelsea Old Town Hall

1-2 Hours of Photography:

If you are keeping your wedding super low-key and minimalist but still want professional photos to remember a very important day, here’s one way it can work:

You’ll be asked to arrive in advance to have a short interview with the registrar – either together or separately if you are keeping things traditional. So for a 2.00 ceremony, arrive at 1.30-1.45. You’ll be whisked off for your interview while your guests are shown to the waiting area or to the ceremony room. Remember to get your names right and soon after that you’ll be walking down a (possibly short) aisle to do the legal bit.

Even with music and a reading or two the service lasts about 20-25 minutes. Your guests will be directed out to the steps where they can grapple with confetti and be ready for your exit as newlyweds. Hugs will follow and then we’ll start the photos: first with everyone and then any smaller groups you’d like.

Spend the next 10-15 minutes with me to wander the nearby streets for a quick portrait session – you’ll enjoy this even if you initially thought you wouldn’t. Your guests can linger and loiter or head to your reception venue and wait for you to arrive.  Photography coverage can end after your couple session or I can come along and capture you mingling with your guests for a short while, and then I’ll leave you to enjoy the rest of your day.

Couples portrait session along King's Road, Chelsea

Remember Kate Moss in the Rimmel ads:  “get the London look”? I think of the iconic King’s Road. It’s well worth spending 10-15 minutes before or after your wedding on a little walkabout along the colourful side streets to get some lovely portraits of the two of you.
